Week 9-Aug 18-22 at C&O Family Chess Center 217 W. Diamond Ave., Gaithersburg, MD FOUR SECTIONS each week* (see below for details): A) Chess & Sport (field trips PM) 9 AM - 4 PM B) Pro-Chess (full day chess) 9 AM - 4 PM C) ½ day Mornings (chess only) 9 AM - 12 PM D) ½ day Afternoons (chess only) 1 PM - 4 PM ENROLLMENT: Registration limited to 12-16 full day students (Gr.2-10)* TUITION: Full-Day Sections (A&B) $300.00 if by 06/06; $320 after 06/06/08 Additional full-day weeks: $250.00 Half-Day Sections (C&D) $190.00 if by 06/06/08; $200 after 06/06/08 Additional half-day weeks: $150.00. C&O Center members and current C&O scholastic club members receive an additional $10 discount on the first week and $5 on additional weeks.
REGISTRATION FORMS
These camps are organized and directed by well known area chess coach, Omar Pancoast, assisted by his son, coach Ross Pancoast, and other staff. Chess activities will include individual and group instruction for beginning & intermediate players, problems & puzzles, "bughouse," competition against computer players, and more.
This year, for the first time, we are offering four distinct options, two for full-day chess and two for half-day chess. *FULL DAY SECTIONS (2): A) "Chess & Sport" - Afternoon activities may include swimming, tubing and other water sport activities, Disc Golf, hiking, and climbing Sugarloaf Mountain, etc. Rainy day and other activities may include strategy games, Meadowside Nature Center, bowling, movies, and Laser Tag at Shadowland. Suitable for all ages. limited to 12 students. B) "Pro-Chess" - Afternoon activities may include advanced chess instruction, master game analysis, Club or USCF-rated Tournaments, advanced chess problems & puzzles, etc. Recommended for 4th Grade & up and students with an above average interest in improving and competing. NO NEW BEGINNERS! Limited enrollment. *HALF-DAY SECTIONS (2): C) Morning Chess (9:00 AM - 12:00 Noon) Beginner & Intermediate instructional program (see above). Recommended for younger campers. Limited enrollment. D) Afternoon Chess (1:00 - 4:00 PM) Advanced Beginner & Intermediate instructional program suitable for those with a greater-than-average interest in improving their chess. Recommended for 4th Grade & up and students with an above average interest in improving and competing. NO NEW BEGINNERS! Limited enrollment.
In addition all students will receive a camp T-shirt, chess study materials, a club-rating, group photo, discounted entry into the Lakeforest Mall Summer-Ladder Tournament, free trial membership in the Chess Magnet School inter-active on-line program, and a regulation sized tournament chess set (2nd and 3rd year students may receive chess tote-bags, books or clocks instead of sets).
REGISTRATION: Normal registration may be made using the forms found above or below. If you have no form, you may send (E-mail or FAX at 301-963-0734) the following information to us:
Student's name; date of birth; home address; parents' (guardian's) names; home, work & cell phone numbers; E-mail address(es); school name & grade completed; camp session(s)/dates requested & full or half day option; after-care request (if needed).
Mail (or deliver) full payment, or a non-refundable $50 per child deposit (to ensure discount and reserve place) to: C&O Family Chess Center, 217 West Diamond Ave., Gaithersburg, MD 20877-2106
Final payment is due three weeks before the scheduled camp. A registration information packet, with emergency forms and other information, is also available below. It should be completed and returned in advance of the camp start date.
